There are only a few days left until the Regional Competition in Orange County and as we count down the days until we are only 15 minutes away from DISNEYLAND (I'll hold back the excitement), we begin to reminisce on past years, former teammates, and, of course our past successes and failures. We feel as though we have grown exponentially as a team within the last 14 years and we can only hope that the next generation will take our efforts into consideration and continue to move forward.

Enactus, has brought forth not only a new brand but a new organization as well, having been part of this team for the last 4 years I have personally witnessed a lot of change and plenty of ups and downs, but never anything like this, I see a brand new team, a brand new outlook; a fresh take on what could be. This is a team that isn't afraid to take chances; to see the possibilities, take the necessary actions, and put forth incredible progress.

As we begin to put the finishing touches on the presentation and other details, we realize that we are not afraid to move forward, regardless of the stresses and regardless of the obstacles. We realize that come competition we are not afraid to give it everything we have and bring our U of -A-Game. This is the last regional competition, and we are not afraid to leave it with a new signature BOOM. We are Arizona Enactus.

We want to congratulate the Belmont University Enactus team for their big win at the World Cup! We feel so privileged to have competed against them at the National Exposition last May and cannot wait to see what they'll have to bring to the table this year! Thanks guys for representing the USA with all you had!

Further congratulations to the teams representing, Egypt, India, and Zimbabwe, taking 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place, respectively.

After seeing such a big win for our country we are more than excited to start the year strong, taking strides to uphold our efforts for forward thinking; creating innovative projects and expanding the ones we already have. We can only hope that these efforts, our hard work and dedication, will allow us to follow in the steps of the Belmont team next May, not only to win the National Exposition but become World Cup Champions! It will be a difficult journey but we aren't afraid to try.

Taking Action,

AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ENACTUS (FORMERLY SIFE):

Students in Free Enterprise, the world’s best-known and most successful program helping university students to create community empowerment projects, has changed its name to Enactus to reaffirm its long-standing commitment to using entrepreneurial action as a catalyst for progress.

“Our organization was created almost 40 years ago—long before concepts like micro-loans and social enterprises even existed—in order to prove the transformative power the entrepreneurial spirit can have in people’s lives,” said Alvin Rohrs, Enactus’ CEO. “Our core belief has always been that the same kind of creativity and rigor and accountability that fuels businesses around the world is not only transferrable but actually essential to human progress.”

"I have been up against tough competition all my life. I wouldn't know how to get along without it." - Walt Disney

The road to the National Exposition isn't easy. As we head into competition we evaluate our script, our projects, and our overall team. There are a combination of things that go into making a National worthy presentation, and after a full year of helping bring the positive power of business to people in need, we must now see ourselves as true competitors. With 14 years of competition, and while we may suffer through the process; spending too much time with our peers, and SIFEing all day everyday, we are proud of our accomplishments this year. Congratulations to all teams, competing or otherwise, no matter what the outcome!

SIFE On,

April 5th is right around the corner, and our SIFE team is growing with excitement with every hour that passes. After the stresses of late nights in the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing, our efforts of the constant practices, constant edits to the script and the hilarious jokes made by a delirious and tired presentation team, has been worth it.  This, our regional competition, is the beginning of the end. We hope to have a successful and fun competition, and we're so excited to see our fellow SIFE teams, the friends we get to see only once or twice a year. We wish everyone luck at their own Regionals, but especially, the SIFErs competing this Thursday in Hollywood! See you all soon, and can't wait to see some incredible projects and equally incredible presentations.

SIFE On,

Andrea Castillo Lara

Dear Reader, Our team has created a Do-it-Yourself Gardening video in order to teach students about gardening and, in turn, the benefits of eating healthy. Teachers: feel free to use it in your own curriculum! Let us know how you like it!
