At our most recent General Member meeting we decided to have some extra fun by having a field day!  Our VP of Membership Carley Howell planned for us to spend time together playing games, beginning with "Fire in the Forest."  In this game we started by choosing to be one of three designated animals: Platypus, Goldfish, or Lion.  We then had the arduous task of running across the field when our animal species was called, trying hard not to be tagged by two taggers.

It sounds easy at first, but as you can see in this next picture it clearly demonstrates our athleticism after a few minutes.  Apparently we need to host SIFE gym sessions as well hahaha.

And here are our beautiful onlookers, or rather those that were eliminated after a bit during another game.  We look so poised and peacful if I might say so :)

A duel is ensuing as these two contenders vie for a $15 iTunes gift-card!  They are the last to hold out after a hard fought game.  This also looks like a scene from our very own Crouching Wildcat, Hidden Dragon film up for a few Oscars next year.  Look out for it soon on DVD!

And here are some of our lovely SIFE family members taking a cue from the UA Cheer team.  We not only build great projects, we also build great pyramids!  :)  We had so much fun bonding as a team and taking a break from our busy lives to let go for a bit.  Because life is all fun and games sometimes :) Until then...

This past Valentine's Day our fearless Vice President of Membership Carley Howell came up with the great idea of creating Valentine's Day cards for a local retirement home as a way of spreading our love to the Tucson community.

Picture
As a team we spent a general member meeting creating beautiful and thoughtful cards from various types of materials.  It definitely brought back great memories of creating similar cards in middle school with craft paper, glue, scissors, glitter, etc....oh the simple days :)

Spending time together as a team crafting these pieces of art (we try) also served as a great way to catch up on each others busy lives.  This experience was very therapeutic, and it was great knowing that we were creating something that would hopefully make someone's day or week.

We hope you all had just as good of a Valentine's Day as we did, it's the little, and big things too that count! Until then...

We recently had our last general meeting of the semester where we went over each teams' progress and accomplishments.  We are doing some great things in this community as well as in other places such as in Uganda and Tuba City, AZ.  We still have a lot to accomplish in the coming months, and many of us will be working through this winter break in order to get a head start.
This past semester many of us have taken on new roles, and we have all had a lot to learn within each project, about each other, and about ourselves.  I think a great part of being in SIFE is that we all benefit in many ways, not only those who we are trying to empower, but as a team we are also learning to become effective leaders.  Practice makes well...better :)
A short while ago we also had tryouts for our presentation team, and we definitely have a formidable team this coming year!  We are all excited to start the process of getting ready for competition, which is always a busy and exciting time, and one that is approaching quickly.
On another note, this coming Thursday December the 8th we will be holding or first ever fundraising gala.  The proceeds will go to benefit the Hair Garage and Rubaga and Friends Projects.  If you happen to be in Tucson and are looking for a great evening to meet with many of our team members, hear some live music, enjoy refreshments, and for the chance to win some great prizes please join us!  The tickets are $30, and $15 for students.  If you are interested in purchasing tickets please contact us.  We hope to see many of you there! Until then :)

World Work & Palo Verde Project Teams

Recently, we turned what would have been a normal Wednesday general meeting into something quite the opposite by having a campus wide scavenger hunt culminating in a team pizza dinner!  The scavenger hunt was a competition between the many project teams that comprise our University of Arizona SIFE Team.

Tuba City Project Team
The event started by splitting into our designated teams and joining hands to create, then unravel a human knot.  After the teams unraveled themselves ( which was a feat in itself as some teams are made up of over twenty members) they then had to solve a riddle that lead them to their next destination and set of clues.

At the subsequent destinations the teams were tasked with doing such things as creating the best "business professional" look with sometimes less than appropriate choices, answering questions about SIFE history, answering more riddles, all the while taking pictures along the way.

We all had a lot of fun as this was a great way for our team to get to know one another, as well as to meet other members with whom we may not get to interact with on a regular basis.

This event would not have been possible without the organization and creativity of our new Vice President of Membership Carley Howell and our Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations Kiley Dumas.

We cannot wait to do something like this again soon! :)

We had a great time meeting with some of our BAB members and sharing a little bit about our projects, news, goals for the coming year, and much more.  Here are some of the pictures we took from the meeting.  Thank you to everyone who was able to attend, and Sam's Club for providing great food!

Hello Everyone,
We wanted to share some advice for tomorrow's Business Advisory Board meeting, as well as for the Career Fair. As you may know first impressions are easily assessed and it takes a long time to undue them whether good or bad, especially the latter.  So it is necessary to put your best foot forward, and they should be nice and polished!  For tomorrow's BAB meeting, as well as the Career Fair, you should be dressed in Business Professional.  Although there will be some obvious differences between what will be worn by men and women, the general look should be the same for both.

For Men:
-A nice well pressed suit, preferably dark, and the jacket and pants must match.
-A nice well pressed shirt and tie.  Here is where you can have a little room for personality, although the colors should compliment each other.  Yesterday I saw someone look spiffy in a peach colored shirt and matching tie.  For myself, today I wore a white shirt with a blue, red, and white gingham print tie.  I must say I got a lot of compliments on it too! :)
-Nice dark socks, no white ones! Here again you can have some personality by having light patterns on the socks.
-Well polished shoes that match your belt.  I have been told that some recruiters judge harshly when it comes to shoes, especially worn out soles.
-Well groomed hair, no bed head please.
-No cologne.  This may be a little shocking but you don't want to over power someone with your fragrance, especially in tight quarters.  Deodorant is  a good thing though, please :)

For Women:
-A nice skirt or pants suit, preferably dark, and the jacket and pants should match.
-A nice blouse underneath, whether it be with a collar or not.  Here is where there is room to show that savvy fashion sense, wearing various types of color and fabrics, but don't let the neckline be too low.
-If you are wearing a skirt, do not let the hemline be too low either.  If you can wear it to a club, you probably should not try pulling it off at the meeting.
-For whatever you plan on wearing, do not let it be too tight.
-Heels are more professional, closed toe and not too high.  I think having heels somewhere below 3 inches is fine.
-It is not necessary to wear pantyhose, a much discussed topic I might add amongst many ladies.
-Hair should be pulled back and out of your face.
-Makeup should be kept to a minimum, the more natural looking the better.
-There is also a rule of 13 when wearing accessories, meaning that your rings, earrings, watch, etc, including buttons should not exceed the number 13.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow evening dressed to impress at 5pm, in McClelland Park Room 103.  Food and beverage will be provided, but it would be wise to bring your resume and business cards.

So far this year we have had an amazing turn out! We would like to welcome all of our new members and invite those who are still considering to join right away so that you can be a part of all the action. There is no time like the present :)
Today at our general meeting (9/14) we announced our new project managers for our various projects, as well as our three new Executive Board Members.  We will post their names and related positions soon so that you may become more acquainted with our amazing team.
This year is already shaping up to be a big one, full of change and energy as we continually add new members, revise projects and objectives, including welcoming our new Sam Walton Fellow Marcia Klipsch.  Marcia is somewhat of a decorated veteran when it comes to working with the UA SIFE team, including leading our team to the final 4 stage numerous times. We are excited to be working with her again, and bringing the best out of each of us!
At present we are gearing up to have our annual Business Advisory Board meeting taking place next week on September 21st.  We will be honored to have our BAB members visit us, and share in all of our happenings.  We are very grateful to have such wonderful partners to help us as we take on this year, with a head for business, and a heart for the world!
